I'm Prasad Rao, the voice behind "Behavioural OS for Techies."

As a Principal Solutions Architect at AWS, I've been in the tech world for quite some time. But my journey isn't just about climbing the tech career ladder – it's about understanding the human side of technology and helping others do the same.

I co-founded BeSA (Become A Solutions Architect), a free mentoring initiative. In this program, we focus on upskilling participants on both technical and behavioural skills for excelling in their tech career.

I'm also a co-author of the book Cloud Career Journeys that shares the life journeys of 16 individuals from diverse backgrounds who were successful in their cloud careers. Interviewing these individuals reinforced the importance of behavioral skills. I saw firsthand how these skills had been crucial to their success and career growth.

It resonated with my experience as I've observed a clear pattern: those who excel in their careers invariably possess strong behavioral skills alongside their technical expertise.

Even my journey to becoming a Principal Solutions Architect at AWS wasn't just about technical expertise. While that was important, it was the behavioral skills – communication, leadership, and problem-solving – that really set me apart. These skills were crucial both during the interview process and on the job. They not only helped me land the role of Solutions Architect but also paved the way for my promotion to Principal. Effectively showcasing these abilities in interviews and consistently demonstrating them at work were key to my career growth.

Throughout my career, I've conducted countless interviews and been on both sides of the table. This experience has given me a unique perspective on what makes candidates stand out – and where they often fall short.
